It is truly one of the special mysteries in life that the earliest years of learning have been shown to make the biggest impact on our journey as life-long learners. Read more...
Whether its walking across a barefoot nature path built in the woods or watching your prototype come to life in the 3D printer, learning should always have an element of fun. The passions and interests of our students are the gateway to crafting our lessons, and we use them to open up the worlds of “traditional” subjects in fun and creative ways.
Learning and growth is deeply personal, pushing our emotional and intellectual boundaries beyond their comfort levels. In other words, learning is risky. Students must feel that their school community is one that celebrates their unique personality and enables them to take the risk of genuine learning. An environment where a student feels comfortable and safe is an environment where they can thrive.

Learning is fundamentally a social activity. We learn from each other, from the world around us, from the relationships that form our communities. When we trust and genuinely care about the people in our school community, we plant ourselves in a rich soil of relationships that enable us to grow to our full potential. Students and teachers alike share a commitment to respect, care for, and encourage each other in our shared learning journey.
We learn best when we get our hands dirty, try to solve a problem, make a mistake, and learn from it. In a rapidly changing world with an uncertain future, we must all learn to face unknown challenges with unknown solutions. We strive to create a culture where challenges are not intimidating: they are invitations—invitations to explore, learn, and grow in confidence.

WABE is the school that truly does school differently! The learning process is very interactive and focused on each child’s social and emotional idiosyncrasy, which is very important for children who come from abroad. The school, the teachers and the overall atmosphere are unique and support the children is order to build respecting, responsible and true caring global citizens. I wish all the children had the opportunity to be in a school like this!
“The school education is really good and the teachers are very well trained. They also care a lot about the students and their learning. The students are very nice to everyone and enjoy learning“. Bruno grade 9 „WABE welcomes us with professionalism and an open arm! Letting Bruno not feel overwhelmed for not speaking Deutsch, he got an incentive from all professors and students to build his confidence and knowledge in learning and character. Also, the IB program is essential for giving Bruno opportunities in his future. We’re pleased to have chosen Wabe the school is brilliant!“
While looking for an English-speaking School near Hamburg we came across WABE. Our main interest was the language, but the school has so much more important things to offer that we are so happy our kids get to go there. We have three kids in classes 5th, 9th, and 10th. When they started at Wabe, it was a life-changing experience for them. We come from Uruguay and have lived abroad before, therefore being at WABE multicultural environment made my kids feel at home. The teachers at WABE are very friendly and have a very special connection with the kids. They engage at a personal level and support is offered constant in every way. What we as parents like the most about the school is the afternoon program. The afternoon classes are helping our kids develop and grow as individuals. They help them discover their abilities, their strengths, make them think for themselves, and form their own opinions. They also get to explore and apply what they learn in the regular classes in their afternoon class projects.
My kids love it at WABE International School. The teachers are very dedicated and the children have a lot of fun while learning. Do School differently is exactly what the children experience at school every day. They receive a good school education and the teachers try to recognize their strengths and to strengthen them further. Every time I visit the school, I wish I could be a kid again and go to this school.
My name is Corinna and my daughter has joined WABE in 10 th grade and wants to do the IB. She adjusted quickly, because of the different ways of teaching and learning. WABE is almost like a family and teachers and students work hand in hand. The students can always ask the teachers, also with personal issues. Therefore there is a trust basis.
Due to constant feedbacks and diverse offers of different subjects, learning is more fun.
Especially the afternoon program improves individual skills and supports creative learning with their extraordinary classes. In those classes the students get prepared for life and are encouraged to be open minded.
As a parent I have all the information I need, due to a weekly newsletter, which I love, and always getting questions answered right away.
For over 20 years, WABE e.V. has established a reputation as an innovator in quality, early childhood care and education. Since its founding, WABE has attracted over 4.000 children and 900 employees to more than 30 locations across Germany and abroad. In their work, WABE has developed a compelling and successful model not only for teaching and caring for children, but also for developing their staff. As the board members of WABE looked at their mission and vision of life-long learning, one clear fact rose to the surface—after many wonderful years of learning and relationship building, all of the children left the innovative WABE pedagogical programmes and entered into traditional schools. What would it look like to start a school that carried on the WABE vision? Thus, the seed for WABE International School was planted.
In 2014, WABE began the process of building a bridge between their early-childhood concept and the world of primary and secondary education. Early on, it was clear that two main trends in education were a close fit for the WABE model: Project-Based Learning and Social-Emotional Learning, and they began to assemble a team of educators that could bring this vision to life. In 2015, the planning for the school began in earnest, and construction began at our location here in Pinneberg. Initially called “International School Campus”, the school opened for its first year in September of 2016, receiving accreditation from the Ministry of Education in Schleswig-Holstein. The first day of school began with 13 eager students, and 10 brave families.
The school received accreditation as an International Baccalaureate World School in 2019, and graduated its first IB Diploma Programme students in June of 2021. The school has now grown to 240 students that represent 47 different nationalities around the world. In June of 2022, the school officially adopted its current name, “WABE International School”, symbolizing its embodiment of the original desire to bring the WABE pedagogical approach into another important stage of life-long learning.
WABE e.V. remains active in supporting the school’s growth and operations. The WABE International School board is comprised of the two WABE CEOs and another member of their board. WABE has played a vital role in the financial support of the school, investing significant capital and organizational resources to support the school’s founding and growth. Both the guidance and financial support from the WABE organization continue to be a generous and constructive backbone to the school’s development, for which the entire WABE International School community is immensely grateful.
